Rear Suspension Support

SumoSprings helper springs are great for RVs or motor homes. Heavy rear loads can cause sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the motor home's weight. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

SumoSprings diagram of installation above existing vehicle spring

Each spring in this kit is bolted to two mounting brackets. One bracket is attached to the frame of your vehicle, and the other bracket is attached to the axle, typically above your existing factory leaf spring. Because each helper spring is in full contact at the top and bottom of the suspension's travel, the expanding and contracting action of the SumoSprings enhances your ride under all conditions, not just when it's loaded. And the closed-cell urethane springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

SumoSprings compressing under load

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

SumoSprings expanding to allow play in the suspension

These springs extend in height by as much as 50 percent to allow more movement in your suspension when you're traveling unloaded, making your ride smoother and more comfortable.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings expand and compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

This kit comes with custom-fit brackets that are designed to easily bolt onto your vehicle.

My motorhome drives great and does not sway bad anymore. I also added Michelin tires which made the ride even better!

by:

I had these sumosprings installed on my class A motorhome 1yr ago to eliminate role. I have been extremely pleased to experience a 90% reduction in role and a MUCH smoother ride. The motorhome is easier to drive and maneuver single handed, even in the turns.

Its been a year and the springs have worked fantastically. I recommend them for any motorhome or truck where you want to reduce or eliminate role and improve driving ability.

2019 Fleetwood Flair Motorhome

I watched the install video probably three or four times before these arrived at the house. I went ahead and removed my wheels just like the install video. Everything went smoothly. I took our Fleetwood Flair 32s on a test drive and I was really impressed with the overall feel of our RV now.. The first thing I noticed was the fact that I’m not having to constantly correct to stay in my lane. In the past my hands were constantly moving to maintain a line. Not now.

by:

2017 Newmar Canyor Star: We installed the front & rear SUMO springs and the side-to-side sway improved a lot. Total installation time was less than 4 hours.

Ford

These made a huge difference in the drivability and handling of my 2018 Ford F53-based bounder 35K. Highly recommended. And the team at etrailer.com is super responsive and helpful.

I strongly recommend this upgrade, combined with additional/reinforce sway bar. You driving will be more pleasant, less stressful and safer.

Eliminates a lot of sway from passing semi-trucks and strong side winds, gives a truer sense of driver input and what is happening on the road, feels more solid when you setup for camping- less rocking when you walk from one side of the motorhome to the other or using the steps. Doesn't soften the ride one bit on the Ford frame. It does porpose on uneven pavment like bridge abutments' you have to keep an eye out and slow down. As long as I drive in Florida it's not a problem.
would like to fix it. but not worth ripping everything out and starting over!

Thank you for your review. These are generally a simple install and I am not sure why these would not soften the ride. If you have not done anything to the front axle, it could be worth considering.

by:

These helper springs made an amazing difference in the stability and ride comfort in our coach. Improved cornering and bounce control were immediately apparent. Plus, crosswind driving is much improved. The split design makes leveling easy as I typically raise the front of the coach rather than the rear. Installation is a lot of work, but can be done yourself with the right equipment. Very pleased.

by:
2016 Thor Challenger Motorhome

The Sumo Springs have made the ride on my 2016 Thor Challenger much better. The coach doesn’t lean as much and feels more stable.

by:

Great product! Really helps the improve the ride in my Bounder. These should be standard on all RV's!

by:

The springs them selves are great but I just had to replace all the mounting bolts to frame and straighten the bracket as 7 out of 8 bolts broke, 1 bent and subsequently bent the bracket. I just emailed sumo springs and so far they don't care.

Eliminated trucks pushing as they pass, corners better, handles way better with steering. Worth every penny. Does not improve the ride, however

by:

Best purchase you can make for the f53 chassis. I can't believe how big a difference these things make. Very nice ride. Can actually drive for hours now and not feel fatigued. I recommend to buy these first thing when you get a new motorhome.

by:

Poly bushings are the only way to go. Installation is fairly simple when replacing your worn, cracked, or missing factory rubber bushings.

by:

One year ago I installed Sumo Springs front and rear on my class A motorhome. This upgrade is the best suspension add on for improved sway control and overall handling. etrailer helped me make the proper choice based on overall vehicle weight and specific chassis. Fast shipping and fair pricing.

by:

I haven't driven the coach with them yet but installation went surprising smoothly. I removed the rear tires to install, the hardest part of this installation was putting those tires back on. No issues with drilling through frame. There were some brake and fuel lines on the driver side rail so I slid a scrap of 3/4" plywood between the frame and rails just to make sure I didn't drill into something I shouldn't have.

My frame already had lower holes, not sure which video but they show installing one of the lower bolts then jacking up the axle until the 2nd hole aligns. Worked like a charm.

2019 Thor Windsport Motorhome

Decided to pay someone to install them - I had no way to remove the rear tires otherwise easy job - Installation cost about $500 locally - first trip with Sumo Springs in a few days

Well worth the cost and effort. I installed these myself after not finding anyone near me who would do this.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Wow what a difference. We have had the Sumo springs in for about a year now. We have made several trips including a couple over 1500 miles and the ride and handling are so much better. The key points for us have been the smoother ride and faster recovery from dips and bumps (one porpoise and settle!). Also the improved handling at corners and turns because the rig doesn't lean as much. The big review is from my wife who was not really enjoying our class a before because the ride was making her a little sick. She is very happy now and will be the first to tell folks about the springs. As for install, two old guys that aren't really big DIY car guys took 2 days and a few bruises but we installed at all 4 corners. And without having to call anyone for help! The video from etrailer was a key factor there. The tip on removing the wheels for the rear install was probably the biggest piece I got from it and honestly I'm not sure how you can drill those holes without doing it. I highly recommend the Sumos and etrailer was fantastic in getting products shipped and providing good support info to make the install easier.

2011 Ford F-53

I purchased a 2011 Georgetown motorhome in 2011 which uses a Ford F-53 chassis. I wish I knew better at that time. I realized that driving it was stressful and dangerous due to the body roll and micro lunges when driving rough road or windy day or curvy roads. We limited our trips to around 200 miles due to this. I had to do something. First, the rear sway bar I bolted the connecting links to the inside bolt holes and replaced the shocks. It drove much better but still some body roll and micro lunges. So I decided to take the next step. I purchased Sumosprings for the rear and front axles. They were exceedingly easy to install, worst part was drilling the frame for the rear axle.
I have now been on a trip on mountain roads for two weeks. The micro lunges seem to be gone, almost like driving a car. The body roll isn't an issue anymore, I can drive the mountain curves without feeling like being thrown over a cliff. There may be other ways to fix this Ford F-53 problem, but the Sumosprings do the job.

by:

So far so good on local streets and state highways. Haven't traveled long distance on the interstate to better evaluate the sumosprings.

by:

I had the both the front and rear sumo Springs installed on my 2016 Newmar Canyon Star, by the crew at Etrailer.
The improvement in the handling was noticeable the minute I hit the road. The most noticeable effect was the reduction in the top heavy sway when cornering.
It also seems to have reduced the effect of passing semi's .
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who has a Ford F53 chassis on their motorhome.

2016 Forest River Georgetown XL Motorhome

Installed front sumosprings myself and they made a great improvement in sway from passing trucks. Just received my rear sumosprings and can'r wait to get them installed before our next trip. Thank you etrailer, for having a great price and answering my calls, to discuss all my question before and after I purchased my products.

by:

I added Sumo springs to the front and rear of my 2020 Georgetown GT7 motorhome about a year ago....WOW what a difference and a great spend. I paid a truck mechanic to do the work and it took about 1 1/2 hour max to do the rear, a little harder as he had to drill into the frame but none the less pretty simple....After watching him do the front i could have easily did the same. great investment!
